Repowering capacity further expanded
NeXtWind acquires wind farm in Diepholz, Lower Saxony
- Two new turbines acquired at a particularly windy location
- Significant increase in electricity generation capacity
- Portfolio now includes 160 wind turbines in 25 wind farms
Berlin / Bremen, 27 August 2024 - The continuous expansion of capacities continues: NeXtWind, the leading provider of optimised decentralised climate infrastructure for renewable energy in Germany, has acquired another wind farm. It is located in Kirchdorf in the district of Diepholz (Lower Saxony) - around 50 kilometres south of Bremen - and comprises two Vestas V80 turbines that were commissioned in 2004. They are to be increased to an output of more than 14 MW in the short term as part of repowering and further optimisation of the energy site.
The wind farm benefits from a particularly windy location. NeXtWind has taken over the operating companies, which were previously owned by Danish private owners, as part of a share deal.
In the past twelve months, the company has quadrupled its optimised repowering generation capacity to 1,000 megawatts (1 GW). The portfolio currently comprises 160 wind turbines in 25 wind farms. Once the optimisation work has been completed, these wind farms will generate four times as much energy and thus supply more than 600,000 households with green electricity for a year. NeXtWind is aiming to triple its generation potential to 3,000 megawatts by 2028.
NeXtWind is focussing on acquiring existing wind energy sites with outdated turbines, replacing the turbines with more efficient ones and expanding the sites through constructive and trusting cooperation with the local communities in order to enable additional turbines to be installed on the sites. The energy yield can be further increased by utilising highly efficient modern technologies. The current regional focus is on northern and eastern Germany.
